Foreign coins are great to collect, but can sound intimidating. After all, other than a few Canadian coins or other coins by geographically neighboring countries you may not be too likely to get a big variety. No worries. There are plenty of local coins to collect that might prove valuable in the future. If you are lucky you will stumble across ones that are valuable now! The one thing that makes coins valuable are errors in their marks. So look for the small details to see if there is a double imprint or some odd error in the coin. Additionally, there are certain coins that are more valuable than others, or have the potential to be, because of things like a small production quantity. Do your research with helpful coin collecting books. No need to buy a book, you can get lots of beginner tips and strategies online for free. Don’t want to get out a microscope to have to collect coins as a hobby? No problem. Grab a coin collecting folder book for the 50 State coins, pennies, nickels, dimes, or quarters and just collect based on the year and have a nice book to show them off in. For all you know you have some of these coins in your home coin jar right now. If you are the organizing type or a type A personality you will fall in love with Numista – like I did – to help you create an online database of your coins!

I love eating at buffets! But that’s … not a thing right now. So I’ve been indulging in making many side dishes and using lots of various leftovers and accompaniments with every dinner. Everything to pickled banana peppers, to adding corn as an optional second side dish, and two types of breads! My point is, it’s a great time to indulge. How you indulge will be entirely personal to you and your family’s particular preferences but here are some small ideas. Invest in whip cream! Buy the extra fancy version of the cookie you normally like or make an ice cream sandwich. Get ice cream with unusual ingredients you may not normally try. Food indulgences aren’t your thing? Try watching a tv show marathon or search for old episodes of your favorite programs online. You’ll be surprised what you can find. Perhaps try a crazy color nail polish or hair dye. Maybe call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while just to catch up and talk for hours! Every small indulgence is a thing of beauty. You’ve earned it!

Having something to invest time into, plan for, and get excited about is helpful when you are trying to keep your mind off of other things or if you just want to keep yourself busy. Entering a contest also provides talking points for interviews, items for your resume or essays for school, and bragging rights on calls with family members. As a bonus, most contests have awards, prizes, and even cash for the winners! So, here are a few ideas:

Need some more contests to choose from, try these or these varieties!

Watch a made-up funny trailer about your favorite movies. You’ll get a good laugh watching these! As the name suggests, these trailers describe what ‘really’ happens in movies comparing them to other related films. There is over 350 episodes in 8 seasons. The producers have been making these since 2012, so there are lots of them to watch! With that many, you are sure to find one of your favorites! Check out this Wikipedia entry about Honest Trailers to see the list with links to each episode.
