Community is an important part of life. From our community we gain entertainment, support, strength, and much much more. Today’s activities are centered on different communities. Plus, as a bonus, most of these fun activities are ones that have just been launched in the last few months so you will be ahead of the trends! Enjoy!
Harry Potter fans will love the newest online community for Hogwart’s fans called Hogwarts is Here. As education is going online, education at Hogwarts is too! Why not enroll and take some classes that Harry Potter himself may have taken like Defense Against the Dark Arts and Herbology. You can even borrow books from the online library. Start your Hogwarts education by enrolling today!
Facebook, Instagram, and Dating sites step aside! The newest social media trend is here. Quarantine Buddy allows you to find new friends based on mutual interest. Quarantine Buddy applies the matchmaking concept to friendships with strangers. Enter your preference amongst the twelve options provided – like study partner, cooking buddy, and video game buddy – and you will be on your way to making a new friend. This is very new, so be careful. But it’s a great time to get involved at the ground floor of what may be the next hot new thing! After all, it “launched April 1 and already, more than 6,000 users from 43 different countries have signed up for the program.”
“Soliya is an international nonprofit organization preparing the next generation with the skills, attitudes, and commitment to engage with difference constructively.” Soliya’s program is no joke. The training is intensive and fascinating. The system was custom designed for the program and allows a meaningful visual real-time experience among users. Soliya connects groups of people from all around the world to discuss important topics and share different perspectives without judgment. Soliya is a rare organization that bypasses celebrity, political, and other gatekeepers to get to everyday people like you and me who want to explore different viewpoints on the most important issues of the day while make friendships around the globe.
I remember after 9/11 there was a booth set up so that those who were visiting Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan could record the stories of their experiences on 9/11. Institutions are now starting to collect stories, images, and artifacts related to COVID-19. To contribute, check out Historic Richmond Town’s COVID-19 Artifact Collection site dedicated to Staten Island (a NYC borough). Look into what the Smithsonian Institute is doing nationally. The Museum of the City of New York is collecting social distancing related images and the International Center of Photography is also collecting coronavirus related photography in general. Other museums are collecting artifacts as well. Read more here.
My spouse and kids are addicted. For my 13 year old daughter’s birthday, we even purchased the game for some of her friends so they could all play it together. It’s just as much fun for adults as for kids. My spouse plays it with his colleagues. Check out Super Animal Royale here. It’s a group activity that really requires coordinated teamwork to win. As a bonus, adults and kids can have equal fun together! For an online game played with strangers, that’s pretty cool. There is a free version you can test out before you commit to the $12-15 it costs to play it with friends. To find out more check out this Reddit about Super Animal Royale, this Wikipedia entry about Super Animal Royale, and this review of the game. Enjoy!
