I promise that you will thank me! Meerkat Manor is one of the best series I have ever seen. There were actual cliff hangers. You actually do get attached to the characters. And, yes, I even cried watching it sometimes because of the touching scenes. Please, do yourself a favor, and take advantage of your free time to watch this wonderfully moving, funny, adorable, and educational program about the life of Meerkats. It’s amazing for adults as much -if not more- than it is for children. Watch all 52 episodes (4 seasons) for free from Animal Planet. You. Will. Not. Regret. It.

187. DISCOVER THE ETYMOLOGY OF YOUR FAVORITE WORDS

You would be surprised where American English words originate from. Make a list of words using the words on the lists here or use these 45 words for a start, put them in a bowl, pick them out one by one, and then have the family guess the country of origin of the word. It’s a great way to learn more about your native language while also gaining an appreciation of its various cultural roots around the world. To appreciate these cultural roots check out this map (coincidentally in the form of a tree) to see for yourself. As you start to realize all the cultures that have had an impact on American English, it’s like taking a round-the-world geography tour!
